Warwickshire
Warwickshire es un condado en el centro Inglaterra, su capital es Warwick. La forma del actual condado difiere considerablemente de lo que fue históricamente. Las abreviaturas comúnmente utilizadas para nombra el condado son Warks o Warwicks. Entre los personajes famosos de Warwickshire destacan William Shakespeare (de Strafford-upon-Avon), George Eliot (de las cercanías de Nuneaton), Rupert Brooke (de Rugby) y Frank Whittle (de Coventry) - hace tiempo parte del condado. J. R. R. Tolkien aunque no nació en este condado, pasó su infancia en el pueblo de Sarehole antes de trasladarse a Birmingham.

Condado administrativo (pob., 2001: 505.885 hab.) e histórico en el centro de Inglaterra.

Data del s. X como unidad administrativa y geográfica, y la ciudad histórica de Warwick se encuentra casi al medio. En el período sajón, Warwickshire formaba una zona fronteriza entre los reinos de Wessex y Mercia. Durante la Edad Media se desarrollaron dos importantes centros en el condado: Warwick y Kenilworth. Entre los edificios históricos que se conservan en esta región hay iglesias normandas e inglesas primitivas, además de los edificios en Stratford-upon-Avon relacionados con William Shakespeare. La batalla de Edgehill (1642), el primer enfrentamiento importante de las guerras civiles inglesas, tuvo lugar en Warwickshire cerca de la frontera con Oxfordshire. Sus principales actividades económicas son la agricultura, la lechería, la fruticultura, el cultivo de hortalizas y la minería de carbón.
